Don’t Worry About It!

Worry and stress are something that a majority of people struggle with. We must understand, though, that worrying is a sin. Jesus talks about worry in Matthew 6:25-34. This passage shows us three things about worrying.

Worrying takes our focus off what matters most.

Jesus says, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26) We tend to put our focus on our problems and not on our Problem Solver! In the passage, the folks were worried about the necessities, but Jesus is trying to tell his disciples that He Himself is the necessity. We need Him the most. When we worry about these things (mostly stuff we can’t control) our focus is taken away from what matters most, a relationship with Christ. I mean don’t you know He will take care of you?

Worrying does not change anything.

Jesus says, “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” (Matthew 6:27) Worrying all day about something will not change it. Get up and do something about it, if you can. And if you can’t control it, trust God! Worrying has NEVER helped ANY situation! Unless your concern drives you to do something to help your situation- stop worrying!

Worrying sends the wrong message to God.

When we worry we are send a message to God that we don’t trust Him. “Lord, I don’t know if You can handle this.” How funny is that? God created the whole universe, what makes us think that he can’t handle OUR lives? WORRY IS BELIEVING GOD WON’T GET IT RIGHT. Think about that for a second.

The opposite of worry is faith; believing God and His Word.  Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”(Matthew 6:33) Trust God. Believe God. Seek God first, and He will take care of you. Don’t worry. Trust and Believe.
