love Jesus, love others, reach the world

Life is Precious

I’ve heard it said that there are only two things that are for certain: death and taxes. And neither of them are wanted. But there is no way of escaping death. Everyone will experience it. And then what happens?

You see, today might be the very day you meet Jesus face to face. We have no reason to believe otherwise. The Bible talks about this in James 4:13-14 “Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.

Life is like the morning fog or a vapor some translations say. Here today and gone tomorrow. Life is so fragile. But many of us don’t live like it. We live like the guy in the verse above. We are more focused and worried about the stuff that’s happening tomorrow or a year from now. And I think it’s common nature to do this.

But are you living today like it could be the very day you meet Jesus? Are you ready to meet Him? What regrets might you have? And what can you do to erase those regrets before the Day is here?

This week, I was faced with this reality of death. A friend of mine died tragically and unexpectedly. It is so sad. But he’s now face to face with Jesus. His death reminded me and many others at his funeral that 1 out of every 1 persons are going to die and our time here on this earth is short and precious.

Paint a picture of what your life would look like if you lived with the knowledge that you would die in 1 year. Would your life look different than it does now? If so, why? You see, today might be your last day. And then you will be standing before the Creator, King, Savior, and Lord. Will you be proud? What steps can you take to make Jesus proud?

If you’re not a Christian and have never turned you life over to the Lord, today is the day. It’s all about turning and trusting. Turn from your life of sin, pleasure, and doing things your way and turn to God. Do a 180. And trust. Trust in God to save you, forgive you, and turn your life into something beautiful.

If you are a Christian but don’t think your current way of living is making the Lord proud, what do you need to do or stop doing today? Maybe you’re not as committed to your relationship with Christ as you once were. Get back on track today. Get in His Word, start a quiet time, and begin praying again. Let this relationship thrive.
